a Lake of Sky

So it begins, or ends, in the turbulent sky we call home, that arc of light stretching from horizon to horizon. All our flights of fancy come home to roost in the dusty coops of our construction, too close for comfort and not far from the ineptitude of reality.
He and she stalk each other in the amber light of dreams, half alive in the turgid muck of dismay, bound by the chains of time and place. The furthest point from his imagination is the destination of the Lovetrucker, a truck stop in Hell, waiting for the goddess of impossibility. She, on the other hand, searches for herself in the mindless rooms of the damned inn, haunted by the Sea Beast and the shrieking vultures of her memories.
Somewhere on the empty plain, they meet and grasp the truth like talons snatching soft prey from the earth’s harsh womb. Creatures, lost and found, stagger on to slake their thirst and gibber at the bloated moon that creeps across a fomenting lake of sky.
So we limp and skip in life’s sad circus, clowns and apes that drown in oceans of the past and all tomorrows.
