Famous Last Words
November 4th 2011 12:55
My DNA twisted and shredded like a spider’s web in the wind. I transmogrified badly, sliding backwards along the evolutionary pathway and the mutations came thick and fast. Unnatural selection was the order of the day as I slipped further and further down the food chain.
Soon I was out on a limb eating up my resources just to stay alive, or rather, in the manner to which I had become accustomed. I was skeletonizing the money tree, chewing my way through life with little regard for the future or the past. There seemed to be no prospect of rehabilitation.
Of course the metaphor of the caterpillar was too easily discerned as a cipher for transmutation. I shucked off my restrictive skin and shivered my nascent wings with the expectation of flight. Surely this was my escape, the point where beauty meets the sky.
Hardly more than a nymph at heart, I lifted my sights to the blue lagoon above. Never more certain of my destiny, it was time to join forces with my true nature that had always been denied. A cry of help would be my famous last words.

The inspiration comes from my love of nature and nature illustration combined with a tendency to live a profligate and disordered life, with known and unknown consequences.
