This Brittle Wilderness
November 9th 2008 11:39
It was no wonder that Dark Corner was a town bereft of young people, as every face in every window of the monastery shone with the light of youth. Whatever had given them cause to barricade themselves in this asylum of piety was strong enough to break their natural instincts. The call to devoutness rang out in silence across the timeless wasteland of my being.
As one, the acolytes vanished from the windows to appear at the portico, filing out into the freezing air. The joyless procession undulated towards a cave in the overhanging cliff, as if lured by a divine pied piper. I was repulsed by the utter futility and mindless acceptance of the herd instinct, rejecting their shallow fervour, in favour of my innate brittle wilderness. Whatever existed in that place would never be known.
My own religion had carried me to that place and I had no need for abject poverty and dull thought. My small friend sensed this reticence and jabbered at me to turn away. Something more or less remarkable awaited me in the glacial gullies of the black mountain.

As you might divine from my scribbles, my physical being has moved from the rapacious city on the coast to my eyrie in the mountains. Amidst the solitude and chaos of relocation, its heartening to hear from you.
